When you’re a woman of a certain age, choosing the right makeup products is crucial. The goal, of course, is to enhance your natural beauty — while also camouflaging skin concerns like sun spots, hyperpigmentation, undereye bags, and fine lines and wrinkles.
For as long as I can remember, my mom (who is in her 60s) has been my go-to beauty guru, so I figured there was no better person to make recommendations on the best makeup for older women than her!
She spends hours researching products before deciding to pull the trigger on something new, and she has even influenced my own everyday makeup routine from time to time since we both have similar dry skin.
Over the years, and after testing dozens and dozens of foundations, primers, bronzers, blushes, eyeliners, mascaras, and concealers, she’s figured out the best of the best in each category. (Which I know for a fact, because she’s truly tried everything!)
Below, you’ll find my mom’s current makeup routine for older women, and her commentary about what she specifically loves about each product.
Note: She didn’t include information about her skincare routine (maybe we’ll do that in another post!) but in general, she typically cleanses in the morning, uses a Vitamin C serum, moisturizes, and applies SPF (the most important step, in my opinion).
If you’re looking for some trusted product recommendations for your mature skin, this post will help you nail down a solid routine. Bonus: Many of these products can be found on Amazon, which makes the shopping process so much easier.
Best Makeup For Older Women
Best Sunscreen: Tatcha Silken Pore Perfecting Sunscreen
This is a sunscreen and a pore minimizer, which eliminates a step. I like that it’s creamy and doesn’t give you that chalky sunscreen look. It’s lightweight, hydrating, and blends well with foundation.
Best Lash Serum: Revitalash Advanced Eyelash Conditioner
This serum will make even the most brittle lashes look super long and thick. It also helps improve flexibility, moisture, and shine!
Best CC Cream: Lune + Aster BB Protect & Go
A pea-size amount of this covers those annoying age spots and red spider veins around the nasal area (that mature women are just so lucky to develop over time!) It works as a primer with any foundation.
It Cosmetics CC + Nude Glow
I apply a small amount to the top of my hand (Lindsay thought this was “interesting”). I place one small dot on forehead, nose, and chin. Two dots on each cheek. Using the IT Cosmetics No 7 brush, which I love, use circular blending motions.
Best Concealer: Hollywood Flawless Filter
This is the ideal “special night out” foundation/concealer. It gives you such a youthful glow without settling into fine lines. It almost makes you look like you’re wearing a filter! Every time I use this, I get compliments from my friends.
Runner-Up Best Concealer: Trish McEvoy Instant Eye Lift
This has a very light texture unlike other heavier concealers. I do an upside down open triangle when I apply it, and it doesn’t settle into laugh lines. Another concealer I purchased after hearing amazing things: Estee Lauder Futurist Hydra Rescue.
Best Undereye Corrector: Becca Undereye Brightening Corrector
This undereye corrector gives you an instant wide-awake look. I use a small amount in the inner eyes and under my lower lash line.
Best Bronzer: Benefit Hoola Powder Bronzer
Any bronzer will do, I just swipe it on my crease and go up just under my brow. Bonus- it’s a great look for hooded eyes.

Best Blush: Westman Atellier Cream Blush
(I prefer cream blushes because they are more hydrating and give a little glow to mature skin). I place a small amount on the mid-to upper cheek bone, and use a blush brush (Sephora #93) using a bouncing technique going upward and outward.

Best Brow Liner: Anastasia Brow Wiz
I love outlining my brows with this product and do a little fill-in with a light color.
Best Brow Gel: Benefit Gimme Brow Fiber Gel
This product is super easy to use and it fills in sparse, thinning areas of your eyebrows beautifully. It almost gives the look of microbladed brows. Great eyebrows gives an instant eye lift look, and brow gels help you get there. Plus, no one wants that crazy Nana brow!
Best Mascara: Essence Lash Princess Mascara
This is one of the best-selling mascaras on Amazon. 368,000+ people can’t be wrong!
Runner-Up Best Mascara: IT Cosmetics Superhero Mascara
If you have very fine, straight, short lashes, I feel your pain. This mascara has become my holy grail.
Best Eyeshadow: Nudestix Metallics for Eyes 3-piece set
To be honest I’ve never felt comfortable with the eyeshadow application. So this is the only product I’ve found foolproof.
Best Brightening Powder: Laura Mercier Brightening Powder for Undereyes
This is a very fine powder which doesn’t settle into crow’s feet, and it helps keep your concealer in place all day. (Not at all necessary but I use it on nights out more for the brightening effect on the areas where concealer was placed)
Best Setting Powder: Givenchy Prisme Libre Loose Powder
(Gifted by Lindsay, obviously). This a great microfine powder for mature skin—it also reduces pores.
Best Eyeliner: Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-on Gel Pencil
I apply on the upper outer lash line and lower outer lash line and sweep it up with a q-tip to give the eye a lifted look.
Best Eyeshadow: Mac Cosmetics Pro Longwear Paint Pot Eyeshadow
This eyeshadow brightens and opens my eyes without giving me those dreaded crepey lids.
Best Lipliner: Sephora Lipliners
These are creamy and apply easily. I overline the centers of the upper and lower lip line slightly but stay clear of the outer edges of my lips. I lightly tap the liner after applying it. I like the shade Sink, Suede, and The Nudest.

Best Lip Gloss: NYC Lip Oil #ThisIsEverythinglipstick
This stuff just feels amazing on dry lips and gives a nice shine.
Best Skin Salve: Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Cream
This best-selling “skin protectant” is billed as a cream, but it’s more like a salve—and if you have dry lips like me, it’s a lifesaver!
